Purana
· Neelmat Purana is the oldest written
book of Kashmir. It tells about the era of Rajtarangani.
· According to this book, Nagas were
the first inhabitants of Kashmir.
· According to this book, Kashmir was a
very big lake whose name was “Satisar” and there lived a devil whose name was
Jalod Bowa, who used to torture the people who were living near the mountain
slopes.
· Then a saint came here, when he heard
about the atrocities being committed on people, and his name was "Kashyap Raj".
· After doing all this, with the help
of Allah, the saint cut the mountain near Varahmulla, which drained water from
a lake which was flowing in the plain.
· And then this lake would drain and
the earth would appear and the devil was killed. Then the people of this place
named this valley “Kashyap Mar” and “Kashyap Pur”. That's why it has this name
because it means land desiccated from the water “Ka” means water and “shimera”
means to desicate.
Rajtarangani
· Rajtarangani is a very important
source of the history of Kashmir.
· This book has been written by Kalhana
Pandit who is called the first historian of Kashmir.
· In the reign of Jasimha, Kalhana
completed Rajtarangani (1149-50) AD.
· Rajtarangani means River of Kings. It
is written about the rulers of old times, from Mahabharata to the era of
Sangrama Deva.
· Rajtarangani was originally written
in Sanskrit and was later translated into Persian by Mullah Ahmed under the
rule of Zainul Abidin.
· A Stien translated this book into English
in 1900.
Tawarikhi
Kashmir
· Tawarikhi Kashmir has been written by
Malik Haider who was a great noble man in the court of Yusuf Shah Chek, he narrated
him the history of Kashmir from the
first period till 1617 AD.
Waquate
Kashmir
· This book has been written by Khwaja
Muhammad Azam Kaul in 1748 AD. It contains about religious consciousness,
social trends and literacy achievements of Kashmir under Mughals.
Tarikhi
Hassan
· This book has been written by Hassan
Shah in very powerful and wise words. This book throws light on indigenous
Persian works and explains them in a practical manner.
· In this, the history of Kashmir is
written from the ancient times to around the 19th century.
Mukhtasar
Tarikhi Kashmir
· This book has been written by Pandit
Birbal Kachru in 1835, in this he has briefly written about the rule of Kashmir
under the Mughals, Afghans and Sikhs.

· This book has been written by
Sharifuddin Yazdi, in which she is throwing light on the relationship between
Sultan Sikandar and Timur of Kashmir.

Kong know a lot of history about Kashmir.

· There is very important book which
was written by Sir Walter Lawrence has mentioned everything about Kashmir, the
history and the culture of the Kashmir.
· There is an important book written on
the history, geography, culture of Ladakh by Alexander Cunningham. The book is
named as The Land of Lamas.
